Re: I went to the nurburgring today !!!!!
hadoque, you have been there, I haven't, but I still ,must disagree with some of your claims:
firstly, you say the track is narrower IRL than in forza - well, if we check photos of cars on the track, I mean real cars on the real tracks, you see clearly that the width of an average car on the track is equal to the width of the car related to the width of the track in forza - it is not big science, just check the pics and compare with pics from forza, they are about the same
the reason why something seems wider or narrower depends on the way you sense the space and also on the speed of the car you are driving - the track will seem much more narrow if you drive in formula one compared to a tractor - it could also depend on fear or something - for example there is a section of freeway in the czech republic which seems extremely narrow, although the actual lanes are the same width as everywhere else - the reason the part of the road seems narrow is that there is no extra lane for broken cars, the road is bumpy, twisty and goes up and down all the time like a rollercoaster - when I do 100 mph there, it seems I am doing 150 mph, while when i get to the nice section, which is long, smooth and has an extra lane, even when I am doing 130 mph, it feels I am doing just about 80
another thing i disagree with is how dangerous it is - if i go there in my panda that hardly reaches 100 mph, then I hardly ever get fast enough to be actually scared - I have driven on twisty, bumpy roads with opposite traffic, which is more scary than when there is traffic behind you - but when your car has only 60 HP, then of course, it is rarely scary - when compared to my former 100 HP escort, in which I could easily scare the **** out of myself - you could appoach any nasty turn at 80 HP and then smash into a tree... not so in Panda, so I guess it would be a nice, relaxed drive there because I would never get out of the dangerous band of speeds - but I might be scared that someone will smash into me from behind- well thje good news is that Panda can keep the apex speed almost the same of sports cars that weigh much more, so the turns should be okay, the straights would be a bit different, but then you say there are none
anyway, there is nothing like the real thing, so who knows. your experience was real but now it is interpreted through memory and feelings

Re: I went to the nurburgring today !!!!!
the track is dangerous for any kind of vehicle if you're slow you're a danger because of all the blind curves and blind spots where you can be cought by MUCH faster cars if you're fast, it's dangerous cause it has zero room for mistakes. you can't tell on photos or videos, really, I've seen many videos I've seen many pictures and when I was there it was like I never seen the place my whole life. if you want to see how it is, go there, cause photos or videos give no idea about the "real feel"

I'm going with Hadoq here, any form of speed is always totally different to viewing it. You can never judge something like that from what you think it'll be, especially in this case. Did I mention lovely photos? ![Big Smile [:D]](/emoticons/emotion-2.gif) By the way, do you need an SLR camera to take decent HDR shots? I've only got a pretty standard digital camera but I've got shutter speed control and exposure adjustment, it just seems I always end up with something like 'the entire dynamic range was not captured' in Photoshop. Thanks and.... Sorry, making something like that with a touchpad was....difficult

Re: I went to the nurburgring today !!!!!
haha thanks ! I'll get my reply soon hopefully. I'll let you know about it (if I'm allowed to hahahaha!) about the HDR, as long as you got a tripod and shutter speed control you should be able to do it. if your camera can shoot in RAW (.NEF for nikon) format, you can even do "fake HDR" (like the Z3M) by developping 3 different pics out of the same shot. for HDR processing, photomatix would be easier than photoshop, and you'll have more options. oh and about the track impressions, we were actually 2 people in my car I was focusing on the road, the passenger was focusing on everything around. the track is definately wider the turns are tighter the slopes are steeper in forza, in most case in bumper view, you can see the corners before you're in them, because of the relief, in real life, you can't see anything the most of the time. blind curves all along. but forza version is great if you ask me, not accurate to the "real deal" but when you think about it, it was made so you can actually race on it without having to do 50 laps first to learn it. I can totally understand why the ring ingame is different, the real thing is just so ridiculously difficult. and again, let it be video games or videos, pictures, whatever. once you're there, first thing you realize is that you don't know anything about how it *really* is. slow car -> dangerous for others because of the low visibility fast car -> if you drive fast on your 1st lap, you have line 95% chances to crash, remaining 5% are pure luck. most nurburgring websites say that if you drive fast on your first lap, you *will* crash, like "for sure". I believe that.

Damn, inspires alot of confidence! Thanks for the help on the rest, all I need to do is get me a tripod, I guess a convinintly placed table will work for now to play around with!

Re: I went to the nurburgring today !!!!!
see maybe your camera can do "bracketing" wich basically is 3 shots with 1 EV difference.

Re: I went to the nurburgring today !!!!!
I hear there are buses with tourists cruising around, so how can the super sports cope with that - if there is bus doing 40 kph behind a blind turn and you are doing 100 in your porsche... I think Panda should be less trouble than buses there on a busy day.
I absolutely believe the turns are tighter in real life, but in forza the speed that you can afford in those turns in Forza seem to match the speed of real cars on real track.

Re: I went to the nurburgring today !!!!!
yea but when you get there and see the actual corner, then try to remind the speed you've seen or done in forza, first thing that comes to your mind is "no fr****ing way !!!" not saying it's not possible, but it takes more skills than forza to get the job done (for reference, in PC sims such as race 07 or rfactor, I can't match the speeds I'm doing in C class on forza) yea, there are bus that drive there, I didn't see any, but that's why everyone say that the most dangerous days are the days with the most people on the track, because you can find alot of slow cars and alot of very fast cars in the same time.

Re: I went to the nurburgring today !!!!!
Yeah, the Ring is a pretty amazing place, I go there almost every 2 weeks (when the weather conditions are any good) , I live about an hour and a half driving from there. I ride there always with my motorbike, I think by now I have made around 150 laps there in total.
And a lot of what Hadoq says is right, the track is a lot harder to ride fast then it is in the game. But I have to say though , Turn10 did a pretty good job in Forza, I have driven there beside my bike (which is totally different experience as with a car) also a few times together (as passanger) with my friends Sierra Cosworth, so I know how to compare it to the game. But if your riding yourself, you have to concentrate on many things, beside keeping the car on the track you have to be alert for the fast Porsches, BMW's, and other exotic stuff that will overtake you.
But I really have to say that after you get the hang of things, it's getting easier, the faster you go, the less you have to worry about other people on the track , by that I mean being overtaken a lot by the fast guys. The slow cars , bikes and sometimes busses on the track are not so hard to avoid.
here some pics of my last years bike on the Ring:

my friends Cossie:

I'll be going there again early next month with my new bike (2008 Fireblade) , I cant wait for the summer begin again !!
I can recommend every petrol head to go to the Nordschleife at least once, you won't believe your eyes there, you'll see there the most amazing cars all weekend !

Re: I went to the nurburgring today !!!!!
yep, you'll find there even sometimes a touringcar on the track, it's an excursion where people can pay for... but they keep always to the right side of the track, so not really hard to overtake....
and I have to say I've only seen it a few times on the track, so it's not like a constant moving chicane

Munky: TMM TOM1111:whats with all the writing on the track?? ive always wondered this
I remember reading once that it's done by fans that are camping round the track at big race weekends, writing the name of the team they follow, or just leaving their mark to say they where there.
That's what friends of me did. At the Karussell they wrote the name of their website very big :D

it's a 1.6 double overhead cam Vtec (either the forza one is wrong, either the 1.5 vtec is an engine I don't know) mine is a B series engine (B16a2), the ones that rev until 8.300rpm with the Vtec kick at 5.500rpm. it's probably a nice track car, but the problem on the ring (because I was driving too slow too) was that under the Vtec mark, I don't have enough torque so the slopes (you can read "walls) were quite tricky. next time I'll take a 4 laps ticket and probably do 1 or 2 easy as my first time, then I'll try and accelerate a little bit. I have a friend who goes there all the time and he managed to do a "bridge to bridge" time of 8'22"... in a CRX ED9 (1.6i-16), but the guy did something like 500 laps last year and almost 100 this year already.
