    Re: Ring of Death Club

I think I saved mine last night... I used a Nyco cooler for a few months and just happened upon an artical about the possability it was burning systems up... So I took it off and there where scorch marks on the nyco part (and smelled). Nothing visable on the 360 but for there to be burn marks there has to be something that has been cooking in the box... I've only had one red light in the ring before and not sure what caused it but it hasn't come back...

How do you find the error code? My friend got the R.O.D. earlier today.

    Re: Ring of Death Club

I'll be on my third 360. My first one was a launch system and it died last year. I got it replaced and now that one has bit the dust. I'm taking it in tomorrow to get it eachanged AGAIN and I might upgrade to the Elite...

I don't keep them in a hot area, I don't play for long periods of time and I never abuse my stuff so I don't see why I'm on my third one...

    These systems are junk IMO....

    Re: Ring of Death Club

My 360 gave me 3 red lights 3 days ago.  No amount of disconnect and reboot would fix it.  It had been about 6 months since my last exchange at EB games, as teh 360 was freezing often back then.  So now, I'm on my third 360, which I will pick up tomorow, same time as FM2.  EB Games wants to charge $95 dollars now for extended warranty and they only exchange for a refurbished, not new console anymore.  Since I bought my first 360, I will have spent a total of ~$200 ($50+50+95) for all my extended warranties, so I don't have to suffer the Microsoft console exchange shipment delays.

I know it was my choice to pay for the extended warranty, and I got what I needed from it, but I don't expect to have to do it for EVERY CONSOLE I get from Microsoft.

    I'm certainly not happy.

    Re: Ring of Death Club

I saldy join the list.  Got my 360 at launch of TDU in September of 06 and got  the red rings March 14, 2007.  6 months and the console dies.  That's just rediculous.  M$ was good at getting me a new console (refurbished or whatever) in 10 days, but I'd rather of had not go through the ordeal.  It isn't even like I played the thing to death.  I'd be doing good if I got 4 hours in a week....

    Re: Ring of Death Club

I joined the Ring of Death club when I was a mere three hidden orbs from finishing Crackdown. Oh, the humanity.
        That was May 4th.
I am now the proud owner of a shiny, new 360 Elite.
        And an extended warranty.
Almost everyone I know has had to replace their consoles. That's a piss poor reliability record.

Add me to the list.  I had never had a problem with my 360, got it one week after launch, then this April it decided it didn't want to work anymore and gave me one red light and an error message.  E 74. I looked up what this meant and it could have been 2 things, a bad av cable or a busted GPU.  I tried different av cables to no avail, and since its a launch 360 i have to pay 140...... i should be shipping it in soon.  Luckily i have borrowed a friends 360 to play Forza 2! :D

I think you might be able to get a refund...word on the street is that all 2005 consoles got extended warranties.

Anyway, I've had two fail on me. Bought a used one for cheap...so I'll use that one until I get my 3rd one back from repair.

Yea i thought that to and asked them, but the 2005s got a year warrenty instead of a 90 day.... and my year ran up this past december... I really wish i could get a refund cause i would love to have my 140 back.

Press and hold the sync up button, while holding that button press the eject button.  This will give u the first number in the code, a total of 4 numbers.  4 lights= 0 , 3 lights= 3 ., etc.  Then go here to see what ur code means http://www.llamma.com/xbox360/repair/Xbox-360-error-codes.htm.

    Re: Ring of Death Club

Hmmm. My warranty situation is weird. My year is supposde to be up, but when I called MS for a replacement they didn't ask for proof of purchase. I just told them I got it roughly a year ago and they said they said they'll service my console. I'm fortunate so far!

I highly reccommend you disconnect the X360 from it and clean both where they meet weekly. I believe all the dust build up I saw on the cooler and the X360 helped contribute to mine's death.

So yes, add me to the club. :(

LOL!!! If you bump into that car, you get a RoD!

In a personal RoD update, my coffin arrived yesterday night, 8 days after I called MS. I sent my poor Xbox back this morning. Hoping to have it back by early next week!

    Bizarre:

It seems a lot of people are seeing the dreadful red smile of their 360's, and there were many seperate threads made on the subject. The Ring of Death sucks, and I'm amazed at how many people are getting it! I thought it would be a good idea to make a central thread for victims of R.O.D.. So, post your horror stories, support your fellow sufferers, and find support and consolance here, guys!
