Re: Was the massive thread about xbox freezing deleted?
The thread was not deleted, but has been moved to a moderator's forum for preservation. There are a lot of good comments in there, etc., but I feel that it has moved beyond its usefulness.
There is already a good thread here discussing case by case problems with Xbox 360 hardware issues and that's the one folks should be using.
Thanks.

Re: Was the massive thread about xbox freezing deleted?
So let me get this straight then. Phase-wise.
Step 1:
People complain about random freezing issues. Found on all xbox360 platforms at random times and with random set ups.
Step 2:
Problem is looked into, people seem semi-satisfied.
Step 3:
No progress is shown, people get understandably worried, begin posting more info to large thread.
Step 4:
Thread gains popularity gets dugg and thrown around the internet. More people swamp the forum with problems and complaints.
Step 5:
Delete the thread, lock the forums to outside views on that page.
Step 6:
Gain more unpopularity as people notice the thread is deleted.
Step 7:
Release a press release stating that "it ain't our problem" and pushing it to the doors of xbox360 horror stories.
Step 8:
Pretend that the other thread had "moved beyond its usefulness".
Like seriously, people are not stupid. Regardless of the faulty xbox and theblame people throw at it, many other developers have developed great games that didn't utterly destroy the system that it worked on. I do not think this is entirely in the console's ball park just because the system crashes, it is also the responsibility of the developers to ensure that regardless of how great or bad the console is, that their game performs on it. This game does not fit that responsibility and I feel that this is unfair to those who put faith and money into a product designed for a system that cannot handle its most basic functionality. Maybe it is time to acknowledge that fact, instead of turning away those you brought in.

Sorry, but it's already been stated by a member of Turn10 that the thread was deleted - you expect us to really believe that? I don't for one and I expect I'm not the only person with that belief. If it is true then the previous statement was a lie so it's a lose/lose situation for you guys and that's before getting into why the thread has gone in the first place (which you have given an entirely different reason for yet again).

Re: Was the massive thread about xbox freezing deleted?
Dude....Just be honest with us for real! We aren't going to panic if ya'll don't know what the problem is, but we would like to know something.. maybe to do... not to do! From personal experience DON'T DO 2 ENDURANCE RACES BACK TO BACK!
You have a great game, complex and far beyond it's time for it's genre and even gaming....you can play this game as a car collector, a painter, or a racer....It's multi-faceted gameplay probably puts it in a class that no game has had before....then to couple that with this website! AMAZING.. I CAN GO TO MY GIRLFRIENDS' HOUSE AND SEE IF MY CAR SOLD! (and show her the pictures that I JUST TOOK IN GAME that she pretends to like) But it could be too much, or just too extreme for the system.... It's like a GT40 to some beginner that buys it on the auction for 750K and has no idea how to drive it....slamin into the wall on the first and last turn having no hope at the elusive 34s. lap! Maybe you guys just need to tune it a little bit.. to fit the rigid structure most games bring to the table... they aren't limitless..free..interactive!
In the mean time....DON'T DELETE MY VOICE!

Che, if the thread has been moved to a moderator's forum then is this member of your team lying? Drows wrote the following post at 06-30-2007 9:38 AM: I went in the deleted post section, and here what I found out
I haven't quoted his full post but he basically copied and pasted a couple of things from that huge thread. Are you going to tell me the moderator's forum is now called the "deleted post section"? Thanks in advance.

Re: Was the massive thread about xbox freezing deleted?
This is outrageous. Apparently truth goes through three stages at Microsoft:
1. They deny the problem 2. They admit to the problem but do nothing about it 3. They fix the problem, but in doing so cause another problem, and the cycle repeats itself
Stop being cheap Microsoft. Use quality parts. Cheap Chinese manufacturing + advanced hardware are NOT a good combination. That being said, if I have to send my Xbox 360 back again, I might just buy a PS3 instead.

During the course of the last 24 hours, Ive done 34/35 of the Semi Pro races, I've attempted all 35.
But the King Cobra race refuses to load. Doesnt matter what car, doesnt matter what settings. It doesnt load that specific track. Wont even load a replay. And it isnt just this track its several, (mostly the "Snake" ones)
How is that hardware ?
I'm no gamerscore whore, but honestly whats the point in playing if I cant complete it?

Re: Was the massive thread about xbox freezing deleted?
Meh, this is one of those Us vs. Them. By them doing the so called "right" thing, it looks wrong to us, so naturally, we complain. By us doing the so called "right" thing, it's right for us, because I don't think people have payed $400 (Sorry, I'm an American and don't convert euro's. My school system is too poor for that.) + $60 for the game, and it doesn't work. And have any of you ever tried to send games back because there's a manufacturers defect? Well its not fun, if the game doesn't work they blame it on you, and then find a place where theres a mild scratch on it and right "Scratch" right on the disk so you cannot use it again and tell you theres nothing they could do. On another note, YES my Xbox has encountered problems playing Forza 2, and at the worst of times. The, the ROM drive starts skipping then that horrible error message pops up "XBOX 360 cannot read from this disk for support go to www.microsoft.com/wescrewyououtofyourmoney." With all these patches that you could make, ahead of the car dupe patch, you could at least patch it so we can PLAY the game. In my final words.... Gran Turismo never froze up on me. I JUST WROTE A THREAD ON HOW TO FIX IT (Works in SOME cases) Thread
www.treeromeo.com ^I mod there. So you know it MUST be good.

Re: Was the massive thread about xbox freezing deleted?
With Bill Gates paying $990,000 per year in taxes on this $124 million, 50,000 sq.ft. home, you'd think he spend a little extra of the company's cash to build a product of superior reliability. Instead, he thinks as the Taiwanese do and makes it as cheap as possible, in both cost and quality, to increase the bottom line at the expense of his user base. And people wonder how products/companies go bankrupt due to poor management. Microsoft better pray that Sony never surpasses their 'Live' service, because that's the one thing keeping many from jumping ship, including me.

Re: Was the massive thread about xbox freezing deleted?
I honestly wish you guys would give them the facts and accurate descriptions. Help to get them as much factual feedback as possible so they can zero in on and hopefully fix any problems. At this point they likely are still scratching their heads and thinking how the heck is everything related or is it? I waited a long time for this game and I just love it. I want it fixed if it has problems. I don't want to kill it or assign blame or liability. Get with the program everyone and post any facts that you can.
I will likely not be of much help unfortunately because I think my one month old 360 was faulty. This is how my issues unfolded however.
1) I had with the now dead 360 the spiral scratches being made on only forza 2 disc, lockups and graphics problems like missing tracks and block textures at times. Always followed by an dirty disc error (every single time). The scratches kept coming back too after each polish.
2) I had my one month old 360 do the red lights on Forza 2 but it did it on every game after that. There was likely a defective component in my new 360 and it would have died eventually anyway.
I did the polish and "boil disc" fix to the old copy of Forza and it played fine in the new 360 not even getting any scratches. Bad disc? I suspect not. It did not speed up and slow down like it was hunting for data like it did before in the now dead 360. I could not try it in the old one since it got the red lights and wont boot up. I returned the polished disc and dead 360 for a credit. I have so far had no DDE messages and no lockups and no graphics problems with the new 360 and the new copy of Forza 2 that came with it. I do however have and always have had the in game music turned all the way down.
Boil disc = The old trick for getting the OXM demo disc to work when you get the DDE message on it. I remember having 5 or 6 that would not read. But after heating up a bowl of water to just under boiling point then putting the bowl in the sink and dropping the OXM demo disc in the water for about 10 seconds it would be easily read in my original xbox. It should be noted that my original xbox DVD drive stopped reading all discs only 6 or 7 months after that. I believe the laser was getting weak and it did finally die completely. Boiling only made the weak laser able to read the disc more easily I suspect. If the boiled disc fixes your issue I think you will find that you laser is weak and dieing or going out of adjustment. IMHO
I still have wheel issues but lets tackle that after we deal with any issues related to the game and 360 if there are any.
EDIT.... PS: I have noticed that my system runs quite a bit warmer with Forza 2 than it did with PGR3 and as a result I set up a fan to move the hot air out away from where I put my 360. It did not help the one month old 360 that died though so I honestly suspect it was a defective 360. It was putting spiral scratches on my Forza 2 disc too.

Re: Was the massive thread about xbox freezing deleted?
Racer I hate to have to tell you this... but the old OXM trick won't work with newer disks, they don't have lamination problems. Also we have been giving T10 accurate information, everyone else who has posted in here has also given the info asked for in Sqeedo's request post. The other post was for fan-fan discussion of the problem. The real reason it was moved/removed is that Digg.com was reporting on it and generating allot of press about this travesty. Turn 10 does not want people to know that the failure rate of 360s while playing FM2 is WAY above acceptable. I really hate the way they have been handling this, people in the testing dept. need to be fired at both MGS and T10, for clearing this pile of crap. It is absolutely unacceptable not to test new game software on all hardware revisions, the cost can't be too high to play test on each build, not when compared to the cost of turning a good game into a $60 coaster for even %8 of your customers. I can honestly tell you I will not buy FM3 if there is to be one, not unless an official announcement about what is happening comes out and a reasonably harsh plan of action is set out, to rid T10 of incompetent employees.

Re: Was the massive thread about xbox freezing deleted?
Well after hearing people talk about Forza 2 killing their consoles I was skeptical about renting the game again. I did so anyway, but instead of video warehouse with their "protectodisc" I rented from blockbuster. Clean disc. Working console. Played for an hour. No lock ups....
...Now I have a new problem:When I rented before it was still out in america..now its out in europe and other places..my problem is:smack talking europeans are on and all they do, when your right next to em passing em, is swerve left and right and knock into you and blame you for being there. And they are like 18+ in age (listening to tone of voice anyway). Its pathetic..
What once was is no more and what never was doesn't exist. So stop trying to find it!

Re: Was the massive thread about xbox freezing deleted?
It is worth noting that all 360 games go through a certification process. The game developers don't certify their own games, Microsoft does. If the problem is in the software, Microsoft is the responsible party for certifying software that is flawed. If the problem is in the console, Microsoft is the responsible party for producing hardware that is flawed. Turn 10 may have produced software that the hardware can't run, but Microsoft certified the game for release, thereby sending the signal to both Turn 10 and consumers that the game works. Microsoft droped the ball. Again. However, fixing the problem is very much Turn 10's responsibility. It's their product. If it can't be made to run on all itterations of the console, then it should be recalled.
