Re: The Panorama Photography Thread - Daily Pano Updates...

I entered this in week 4... its just 3 shots, with no spacing in between photos...
Obviously I didn't win or even get an honorable mention, because its 3 pictures, and the only pic with a car in it, ain't so great.

I am a professional Photographer in real life, and the photomode options leave a bit to be desired, but some basic photography rules should be applied when making Panoramic.

Only make the center picture Fisheyed.

never use Negative zoom on symmetrical objects.

find an axis point, and only pan left and right, or up and down.

and never change the cameras elevation or position, only the axis.

I'll agree that there photo mode is nowhere near a real d-slr, but its at least usable.
As to your rules, I'll slightly disagree.   I think its a matter of technique and I believe that there is more than one way to skin a cat so to speak.  It all depends on what your end goal is.

I will agree with the fact that for panos you must find a fixed point and pan in only one direction at a time and never change position or elevation.  I have broken these rules in the past and put together a real life 36 shot pano where I physically moved the camera between each shot.  It certainly wasnt easy to put together, but the end result was exactly what I was after.

Thanks for your input.  I hope you'll continue to post other shots as well.

Is there a basic toutorial for doing these somewhere? I tried one last night, and got it somewhat working, but i dont think i took the pictures correctly, so i was fighting with the stiching trying to get it lined up right.

I could post mine if you like, but since I use a program called PTgui, it might throw some ppl off.  There is a freeware proggie called Hugin that works as well.  I'll post the tut after a bit.  I'm kinda busy sorting out a mess in the paint/livery forum at the moment.  ugh.

Re: The Panorama and VR360 Thread.

here's something else you can do with pano skills:
turn the typical poor resolution of a forza photo into a high res one:
click the link to see a compilation that features a photo at 1920x1200 resolution!
5 shots + PTgui produced the original at nearly 2500 pixels wide with no distortion
