Re: I've fixed photomode! (Or atleast found a workaround) Image quality rocks now!
Pugs On Fire:
Here is a small version of a 7 shot image using this method. A little post work done. I'll work with some better images tonight/tomorrow. This was just a random thing to test it. link for now: i'll edit it in a few minutes, my work comp doesnt like to embed things apparently. http://imgur.com/52dA5.jpg
Nice! glad to see somone has finally tried it. Looks great! Wouldn't you agree that a gallery for the high resolution photo method would be great to showcase the images. I know I'd like to look at highly detailed shots that other people have done. Check out my latest photo it's 2880x1200 resolution, crop it and it makes a great desktop! I love it man, looks super realistic, the only thing I would have liked to see is the background blurred to show motion, right now its just the rims moving yet everything else is still. Overall though, no question, looks absolutely awesome!!

Wow... right, I forgot about the car being in motion. Thanks for pointing that out. *boots up photoshop*

Actually on second thought I don't think the backround should be blurred. If you think about being in a car, a person beside your car would blur by, but if there was a mountain in the distance it would appear almost stationary. That, coupled with the fact the photo is on a fast shutter speed, as you can see, the wheels aren't rotating that fast, leads me to believe the backround could very well be in focus. Thoughts? *goes to make gallery

I think it's a disgrace that fans of the series.. CUSTOMERS who spent money to get this game have to do all this stuff to get quality screenshots. I mean give me a break... Turn 10.. get Microsoft to foot the bill for the bandwith. I really don't get it.. every single service Microsoft or others give to users (images, videos), is using way beyond anything Forza 3 will require - bandwith wise, yet everything is free and I paid more money for Forza 3 LCE and I can't get high-res screenshots?
I mean are you guys serious? I'm sorely disappointed. This is why GT5 guys have right to talk crap. They have 8megapixel photos and Sony will foot the bill for sure to get it out.
Don't be such a drama queen man. Don't say the quality of the pictures is bad, because I've seen some stunning pictures. It's just that most of the 'photographers' have absolutely no idea what they're doing and the result is really ugly. But check some photo's on this forum, and you're really overacting man. When I get home, I'm going to make a panaroma picture! Awesome idea, topic +++
Yes there are some nice photos, but you still need your magnifying glass to see them, they still look like the good quality shots coming out of FM2...

Thanks, but is is really that easy to line the photos up so they look that perfect? I mean, that's a lot of lines and curves to get exactly right?

Re: I've fixed photomode! (Or atleast found a workaround) Image quality rocks now!
If we're talking real life, then it would depend on if you followed the car as you took the shot to provide the motion blur. Based off of the rim blur, the car looks to be moving at a fair speed. In order for you to be able to shoot the background that crisp with the car moving but still super crisp, the shutter speed would have to be pretty high (1/500 maybe) even then the rims probably wouldnt be spinning that fast. Just my views though, its a videogame, we can do what we want lol. If you don't think it needs blur then I say leave it as is. Whatever looks right in your eyes man is all that matters. Just like one of my shots in my gallery I made it where the car was moving real fast yet I used the wrong side and it didnt show anyone driving it lol, looked like a ghost was driving it or something. Either way its a sweet shot.

It really is super easy, auto-align in photoshop does it in like 10 seconds, like 8 images anyways. It detects the lines really well, the two times I did it, worked perfect.

That's awesome, but isn't Photoshop is AUD$1040.00, I can't afford that. I know what you're trying to do, and it's awesome, but it's out of reeach for the average punter who just wants great looking photos to use as wallpaper, which we were led to believe we were going to get.... I will watch your thread and use your photos instead

I did that 4 image stitch in microsoft paint, which last I checked, was free with your copy of windows. It's pretty easy to line up, it took me 5 minutes. BUT!, if you don't want to do that there is plenty of free panoramic stitching software out there.
If I remember correctly HUGIN works well http://lmgtfy.com/?q=free+panoramic+software

Re: I've fixed photomode! (Or atleast found a workaround) Image quality rocks now!
I'm wondering if I should do a pdf or word tutorial, the first post is pretty messy. In the meantime I'm going to work on making the first post clearer. I really think this topic should be stickied. we're past Anger and Bargaining and we're on to Acceptance. I think this thread is sufficiently turned around :) I'm loving what I'm seeing in the gallery already. Great work everyone! http://forums.forzamotorsport.net/forums/thread/3161350.aspx

Great post, i'd really like to have a crack at doing this myself though i am bit confused as to how you go about it? A step process tutorial would be awesome, i've got the software already :)

I tried and failed miserably, that Hugin sofware is a disaster. I'll leave this one up to you guys and pray we get better quality compression down the track.

ok so i dont have a capture card so ull have to go off the words of the op for taking the and uploading them then download them to your computer. personally i then copy them twice one to work on and one backup incase i do something silly right the photoshop bit (if u dont have PS there are plenty of trials about you can use for a while) first up removing the fm logo.some people take off the bottom section to remove it (but for me i find i like to have a picture taken from the floor so this can be abit of a pain) so i take of the right hand side. so when taking your photo remember this and overlap your pictures enough *edit* as it turns out there is a faster way to crop them all 1. file>scripts>load files into stack 2. Crop tool, drag, leaving out the logo. it crops all the layers. file>scripts>export layers to file (if you want to save the cropped pictures) Can't you do photomerge from layers though? not sure exactly on how that one works so have a play about */edit*
load up the picture and youll have something like this
now hit image-resize canvas and youll be presented with a dialog box. i have found (for removing the left side) a pixel size of 1045 works well. and before you hit ok. underneath is a few boxes with arrows pointing inwards. move the middle box to the right hand middle one. it will keep that side and take away the left (later on youll want to leave it in the middle so it chops both sides)
and youll be left with this
now save it and do the same with the rest right the fun part. hit file-automate-photomerge youll be presented with a dialog box. hit browse and open all the files youll be using and hit ok. it will open them all and close them all before presenting you with this
i have moved a few about as it worked out well. but you could be left with a few that are way out (sometimes this is because taking the photos in the game were out) you can move them about by clicking and dragging untill they look right
you can adjust the slider to zoom in and out so you can get a better view of how you are lining them up. and the snap to grid if it keeps snapping them way out you can move them more presicly to how you want them. hit ok when your happy and it will merge into one picture
but you will be left with a jagged edge where the pics havent lined up around the edge. so resize the canvas again (leaving the little box in the centre)this will require abit of trial and error.
once your happy with it you can resize picture to bring it to a better size. then upd it to your favourite site (flickr is good for quality, but photobucket allows bigger files.) upload it twice. i use photobucket to resize pictures on upload. so have one uploaded smallish so you can use it as a preview, and once at full size (no resize) so you can link it for better quality

Good tutorial! Thanks for making a pictured one. IMHO the methods you're using are wayy too complicated. Yours is good, but the first part takes way too long. You have to manually load and save each file. My method is # times faster (# being the number of pictures) 1. file>scripts>load files into stack 2. Crop tool, drag, leaving out the logo. it crops all the layers. file>scripts>export layers to file (if you want to save the cropped pictures) Can't you do photomerge from layers though? you know the rest.... Unless my way is somehow flawed :) I really like your tutorial though, its clear and concise.
