Re: F1 vs. IndyCar Racing - Which do you prefer?

    Nice write-up Rich. Well done.

Just a quick note. Indy Car (Champcar nor IRL) have ever used V10s as a mandated configuration. Champcar have used strictly turbo v8s for 30+ years, and the IRL have used N/A V8s since it's inception.

Oh yeah, what do I prefer? F1, it's really a no brainer at this point. If you would have asked this question 10 years ago, maybe you could have made a case for CART. Not so much today. Sadly, open wheel in the US is really just a shell of itself.

Re: F1 vs. IndyCar Racing - Which do you prefer?

F1 is a lot more exciting to watch....mainly because of all the legendary circuits they race on. But I also think the technology and the work that goes into it, is on another level from any other racing series.

I prefer F1. Alonso's causing a bit of strife among the Renault team at the minute though. It'll be interesting to see if it causes problems for him in his title race with Schumacher.

I prefer NASCAR over both of them. But, I still love to watch any type of racing, usually no matter what. I watch the IRL and F1 occasionally, I'm just not into it nearly as much as NASCAR, so I really don't keep track of their series.

I am curious as to what this topic implies about Forza 2. Will we be getting open wheels?

Maybe Turn 10 was considering licensing some IRL cars for Forza 2 and wanted to gage how bad the whining and complaining would be when they announced no F1 cars...

Re: F1 vs. IndyCar Racing - Which do you prefer?

Formula 1 is definitely better than IndyCar, but you know something?  I like something in this world called diversity.  I do enjoy the Schumacher-Alonso points race, but honestly, there's so much racing out there that people miss out on.  A1GP is where the rising stars are for most of the middle of the season.  It's the World Cup of Motorsports; you have almost no choice but to root for your home country, because you probably know the guy driving the car.

(In Canada's case, James Hinchcliffe is a Champ Car Atlantic driver... he drives for Forsythe Racing.  Speaking of ChampCar, XboxRacer.com ran a faux CCWS season in the spring, using Codemasters' Formula Palmer Audi division in Toca Race Driver 3.  A devoted IndyCar fan won the whole thing, but some guy named Wickedneoq took 2nd in the points.  Palmer Audis are a lot like a mini A1GP car.)

IndyCar probably has the bigger event in its stable, that the world knows and trusts as an exciting race:  the Indy 500.  Unfortunately, no F1 teams take the chance to build an Indy-spec car and run it, because they have no class for American oval racing.  F1 media wondered why Juan Montoya jumped ship to N'Car?  They should have known all along why; he's been an oval racer since he won the 500.  Same with Villeneuve (hopefully Italian media is right).  We'll see how that turns out.

(How about showing some love to Panoz and license the new 2007 ChampCar in your game? After all, you go to the Roads, Atlanta and America!)

    Well said.

BTW, I know this isn't the real topic, but people kept saying it early on (actually, ALOT of people say this).... WTF is with you people bashing IRL and NASCAR for turning left? Besides, BOTH leagues have road courses in their season (NASCAR has 3 or 4 road-course races a year on two of the hardest road-courses in the world (especially at Waltkins Glen, very difficult course). So plz guys, no more left turn bashing because both IRL and NASCAR drivers are more than capable of turning right.

Thank you for your time.  - Tum

OK back on topic!!! : )

Coming from a guy that's more into stock cars and sports cars, I really don't know what side of the tracks I'm on.  I've seen a few F1 races on TV and wasn't really impressed with them; sure these are the world's best drivers, but the level of action wasn't really that high.  Maybe I'm more into oval racing, but I love road racing just as much now...hopefully the IRL will have more road races based on the Sears Point and Watkins Glen races.  If that day comes, then that may set up the reunion of Champ Car and the IRL, but until then...I really don't know.  Do I go with the drivers and circuits of F1...or the wheel-to-wheel competition and variation of short track, speedway and road course that the IRL offers?  I can't make up my mind here...

ya the problem with F1 is that the cars seem to tturn and move so perfect that it doesnt really look like the driver is doing anything. Many of the drivers follow the exact same pattern of turning and it seems like they are preset robots.

The question should be F1 vs. Champ car.   The answer is both!                   Rolex and American LeMans ..... both. sphilli22 are you from CT.
