Re: Auction House Hatred...
Just for the record... You CAN have Xbox live on a satellite connection. I good friend of mine lives in a pretty remote area in Alaska and is on a 768kb satellite connection and plays on Xbox live every day. Unfortunately concerning the AH there is billions, upon billions of glitched credits still out there from the early days of the game. It sucks, but it is the case. Only one way to fix it and that is a complete AH reset followed by a credit reset but Turn 10 isn't about to do it. For every person that would be happy to finally have an even playing field there will be 10 that are angry because they don't have those large numbers of corrupt credits in thier account anymore. Now that being said you will find that many artists are willing to work with you if you want a paint, and the Unicorn cars aren't any better than the regular versions. Also, Turn 10 has many different ways people can get them aside from the AH.

Re: Auction House Hatred...
While we may all be sinners, we are certainly not all saints. Standing around and playing honest while the cheaters walk away with all the good stuff doesn't seem like much of a plan. If Turn10 could've done anything about the glitching or the guy(s) on E-Bay after a year, they would have. Sounds like a no-win situation no matter what you do.....

Re: Auction House Hatred...
I remember back in the day that it wasn't uncommon at all for cars to got beyond the 999,999,999 max amount the AH could list. I never could afford anything like this, as I didn't cheat. I find it's quite rare to see a car go beyond 400,000,000 these days, which tells me some of the problem has been corrected. The AH never was and never will be a perfect place, but it beats the daylights out of any marketplace I've seen in a racing game. There will be a TON of cars I will never be able to afford, and that's fine. The decision was made by the seller to get max credits, and I don't begrudge anyone for that. When I watch the bidding on these high demand cars, I find the winner is as often a regular here who has WORKED for the credits as it is some unknown (probable) cheater or profiteer. (Before anyone who's not around here much challenges using the term "worked", I suggest you ask any of the rich folks around here. A ton of time goes into painting/tuning/selling.) If everyone had the exact same paints and tunes, this game would get boring quickly. The longevity for me has been trying to get credits and cars. There's no better feeling than breaking out a random car that no one expects. For those who want to race exclusively, the AH structure shouldn't be any deterrent. You can always download tunes for cars. Not trying to flame anyone here, just think some folks need a bit of perspective.

Re: Auction House Hatred...
JerodR: This is from Xbox Support - "The performance of Xbox LIVE will vary by ISP and network conditions on the Internet. Not all Internet service providers support Xbox LIVE play. Dial-up (for example, 56K), ISDN, and satellite Internet services are not supported. Depending on your service and the configuration of your home network, additional hardware may be required to connect." The link is here. And to P00h: You honestly don't know how many have been shut down, banned from eBay, Xbox LIVE, etc. Of course, they may change account names and get new gamer cards, but there's only so much that can be done when the effort is understaffed (especially at Turn 10), but they are removed as the information comes in.

Re: Auction House Hatred...
You're right, I honestly don't know how many have been banned, and if you do, please tell me. But I do know that same guy on E-bay has been selling credits, in batches of 100 million to 1 billion, for over a year. I know, Jerod knows, and lots of people who play the game and read these forums know that those aren't "left-over credits". I fully understand that there really may not be anything that can be done about it. ( I really do ) But please understand the frustration that Joe-Average has. Tuning, painting, ( unless you're really good, then you wind up selling your cars to glitchers ) and certainly not racing will ever get you enough credits to compete with those that cheat.

Re: Auction House Hatred...
I don't know Poo - as someone else said a few posts up, vary few auctions end at figures in the 100+ million credit range any more, and most end in the low 100 range or lower. I'm involved in a lot of those auctions, and while I win only a few, I always keep the auction up so I can see who won. As someone said before, I know (or at least know of) the vast majority of bidders and winners and to a man I know they came by their credits honestly. And as Snowowl said - there is only so much any one can do to stop these guys. I never cease to be amazed at the lengths some people go to cheat at a freekin game! Multiple accounts, mutiple profiles - get some satisfaction at the fact that these idiots are paying real money to get imaginary items. But when all is said and done, I don't honestly fell that I have been impacted in any serious way by these guys. IMHO most of the auctions go to those who deserve to win them, and to be honest the idiots can't take your enjoyment of the game away from you - only you can do that. Don't let the bast**ds win by bumming you out.

Re: Auction House Hatred...
No, I don't know how many, such people aren't given even 15 seconds of fame by announcing their removal. Xbox LIVE Policy/Enforcement goes after people like that in any game - and the numerous phishing sites which pop up all the time. Eventually, they run the culprits to the ground and they aren't just banned from a certain game but Xbox LIVE entirely. If you have information on people like this, send it to Turn 10 at forzafb@microsoft.com. They can either track it down or turn it over to the people who don't tolerate this stuff. As for competing with the big credits folks, there is no way. That really doesn't remove the enjoyment of the game. As I've said before, there's absolutely no design which makes a car faster or gets the owner more wins.

Re: Auction House Hatred...
Well go ahead and turn the guy in then, he's been operating openly on E-Bay for a year, still there, still selling credits. I'm thinking that if there was something that could be done, it would've been. Please prove me wrong! Maybe you aren't aware of how many cheated credits there are floating around, but please, don't tell people that if they just play by the rules, they too can get that unicorn or cool car off of the auction house. Because the reason that xX Johnny No-Name Xx outbids them is they glitch. Glitched credits do affect the enjoyment of the game as the Auction House and the selling of cars are some of the major reasons for Forza2's longevity. Fast cars aren't the only one's worth having in Forza. Glitched or E-Bayed credits prevent otherwise honest players from getting the car they worked ( yes, worked, as it takes lots of time to earn cr. legitamately ) for. I don't mind losing an auction to someone like McMansell that works overtime, literally, to build cars. But people do mind losing a rigged game.

I am very aware. One report may not get the attention, but three or four on the same thing will. When you see it, drop Turn 10 a line.

I never really venture into this sub-forum, as it holds no real interest to me. But since it's slow over in the livery section right now, I'll take a moment to add something here. Yes, there are no-buyout auctions that go for ridiculous amounts. However, most times if you contact the seller/artist, they would be more than happy to get you a copy for a reasonable price. Most no-buyout cars are considered "Limited Edition" and run in small batches. Usually there is a buyout version that is released after the LE car for a nice low price. Sometimes the sellers will list even the buyout cars with no buyout for a little while to try and fend off re-sellers. But I don't know of many artists that won't work with someone who actually wants to buy their car to keep. Keep in mind everything I said above only applies to legit releases. Not spam or reselling retards.
If you're not driving with the Fanatec, you're just playing games.

Re: Auction House Hatred...
Snowowl... I understand that is the "Official" response from Microsoft/Xbox Live to cover their butts in case the connection does not work up to par, however it is possible. I would be more than happy to introduce you to someone running off of a slow satellite connection. It can and is currently being done. Matter of fact he is on right now as I type this. To the original person complaining about the AH... If there was a way I could gift you a Unicorn car I would gladly do it. Unfortunately they don't allow that though. I can tell you they are kind of a waste of money if it makes you feel any better. I will do one better though. Go to my gallery in the Fantasy Livery Winners section and pick out a car that you like and message me on Live. I will hook you up for 10K. (Excluding LE's though)

I agree the auction house is fine, I personally find it fun to get into a bidding war over something - and I am new, poor and usually lose the car. I would like a way to get the unicorn cars though since they are definitely out of my realm of finances.
Here you go: Check out the Pitpass Reports every Friday from Turn 10. There are lots of ways to "win" - without being an expert with the Livery Editor, a tuner or fast racer - the special cars. But you need to keep your eyes open. Sometimes all you have to do is participate in something like the Hotlap Challenge and you'll be eligible for one of Turn 10's magic drawings where the randomly select entrants to be eligible to just name the car they want. All the "special cars" are listed in the second portion of the Forum Guide, so take a look at that, too.
Thanks Snowowl, I have been keeping an eye out for that thread ;) I just want the 'vette - may not be a great car but I like Corvette's. My first attempt to make my own paint is of the vette in Corvette Summer, nothing special but gotta start somewhere. Didn't know about the Hotlap Challenge thingy though, never raced online yet so will definitely have to give that a go.

Re: Auction House Hatred...
How can you complain if some people make more money then you, they should be aloud to duel it out since they prolly earned the money the good old fashioned way, by either selling cars w/ tunes or paints, or actually playing the game....you have to expect the unicorn cars to go for well over 10 million a piece, heck i spent around 50 million just for the espionage (excuse me for destroying the name). The whole bidding war makes the auction house fun, because then you are matched against others whom you may not know, and are unaware of their funds, and you have to make a choice if the car is worth all the money or not. Sorry to be random but i had to say my side

See, I am a noob lol. Just found out its a Camaro and not a Corvette for the unicorn car. Please forgive me :)

Re: Auction House Hatred...
Voodoo Effigy:
Whilst i agree that the auction house shouldn't be an "ebay sniper fest" , i also agree that bidding on auctions is boring and frustrating in its current form. I don't think the 2 minute timer was really ever the issue though.... You should be able to input higher bid amounts manually, if the auction is currently at 1000 Cr and i want to bid 20 million of my hard earned credits, why can't i do this in one bid? or at least a lot quicker than it currently is.. There will probably be people who will say, that is unfair on people with low amounts of credits.. why?? if someone has more credits, they deserve to win the auction.. right?? This will be not only be good for sellers, but also buyers - who don't have time to spend 2 hours pressing a button just to raise the auction to the amount they wanted to bid at the get-go. Keep the 2 minute timer, but why not let us choose our bid amount? Surely this would also require less bandwidth on your servers, and less auctions running for hours on end.. Until someone falls asleep.. or the controller button wears out..
Snowowl:
First, this thread is about seven months old. Second, no one is on Xbox LIVE with a dial-up account. You can't even create an account with a satellite connection because the system will reject the poor connection speed. The bidding was changed during the anniversary week back in May/June to expire at the end of the actual time, and what it turned out to be was bad for the Sellers, a reduction of bids because people were attempting to get the last bid (not an opening bid in) and Turn 10 determined during that study they system really didn't work as an auction - that is two interested parties continue bidding (resetting the timer) until one quits or runs out of available funds to bid. That's how real auctions are, not the sniperfest of an eBay-style bidding. The system in Forza Motorsport 2 will remain with a reset to two minutes when a bid is made during the last minute. Participation in the Auction House is only required to get a simple achievement, otherwise it can be ignored.
Firstly, (Snowowl) i couldnt care less if this is an old thread. Its still completely relevant because the auction are still a complete [mod edit - FS] up. Secondly, (Voodoo). Nail The Hit Head On The
Get rid of the current unusable bordom inducing system and bring in manual bid amounts/proxy bids

Re: Auction House Hatred...
Rich, you just don't seem to get it. The Auction House will NOT change in this version. Turn 10, which has been working on the "next big project" since about May, 2008, isn't going to scrap their current work to go back and change a game which is coming up on two years old in a couple months. And, leave out the profanity, please. That's a violation of the Terms on these forums.

Actually, that's not the case. I'm glad your friend is operational on Xbox LIVE with his satellite connection, however, there is built in lag (even the satellite service companies will tell you) so when he lags (and he will no matter what is said) he affects the games and others he's playing with at the time. I could connect via satellite, too, and was for a time back in 2001/02 when I tested Xbox LIVE, but there is inherent lag which is detrimental. And that's one of the reasons LIVE doesn't service dial-ups or satellite. It isn't a cover-up or anything of the type, it is the simple truth. Even having a wireless connector (I still occasionally run my trusty MN-740 wireless adapter from the console to the router) can cause lag in games. Wired to the router/modem is the best connection we can get, and that's still only as good as the fastest hop along the way and only as fast as the slowest segment.

Re: Auction House Hatred...
Well of course there is lag...lol That should be no shock. Just saying that he is able to play on Live with a satellite connection. Sure it is not ideal but in some areas it is the only available option...such is the case for him. Personally I am suprised that when he is playing that I don't notice any lag in regards to him skipping around or anything. I'm sure it is there, but just not as noticeable as I would have expected. Personally I run a 40up/40meg down connection so don't really have many issues in the way of lag.
