Wow, Can't believe it held it's own with the Evo. Now if Chevy could just get people to buy them! I've always liked Chevy's because even though the interior hasn't always been top quality they have always been the most comfortable cars to sit in. At least for a fairly tall guy like myself. Especially my old Camaro (89RS). With the seat up it allowed me to get a good position on the wheel and with the seat back it was perfect for cruising. Nice and low to the ground. Good pedal position. Just felt like it was meant for me. My Wifes dad has a Suburban, probably late 90's and the one time I drove it I was really comfortable. Ford has always sucked at that. I've driven an 02 Mustang, and a new Escape and the steering wheel was not only but ugly on both but the cars were uncomfortable and awkward to sit in all together....My brother has an Evo 9 and I must say, it's an outstanding car to drive. Anyway, go Cobalt!

That track has more speed areas then it dose handling ones. The NEW evo sucks in speed area's. Put them on Laguna  or the Nur and lets see what happens.

maybe you are thinking of the M button in the car?

Actualy what I was reffering to was the fact that you can opt. to send your M5, M3 or Z series to G-Power when you order from the company. Same with Chevrolet, you can send your car to SLP.

Also it was a 2008 BMW M5 that posted an 8:13 at Nurburgring. The M3 posted an 8:15.

LOL...  Yeah, that's part of the problem. Civics and some EVOs' are cheaper but the cost of Borrowing on an Import is high so realy it works out to the same price, so realy I don't know why people don't buy them.

Maybe it's because of the few and far in between Aftermarket parts for Domestic Tuners. Less options to personalise.  Hmmm....

I remember a year or two ago the Cobalt beat the Skyline.  Just because it's N. American doesn't mean it's heavy and slow.

If you honeslty believe a Cobalt can beat a Skyline I can see why you honestly think you Sunfire with 150whp and stock weight runs 12.2@105

Re: New Cobalt SS beats evo mr, bmw, G37, list goes on...

I cant stay out anymore. What TKR RodGod is saying is a bunch of non-sense.

1st.) The M5 in the Car and Driver was stock, i have no idea where you get the G-power(Or advanced power option lol) from. Honestly, what i have been reading in your posts seem to be made up. 600hp M5 loses to a 550 hp car that weighs more? lol Also, whats with the Cadillac having a better finishing order.... The CLR was only raced once, and the CLK-GTR was raced 22 times, and it won 17! and 17 poles!. I dont know where you'r getting this info.

2.) Your Dailmer comment has nothing to do with Benz. Am telling you Benz has a good F1 car, and you are telling me Dailmer used Benz performance parts...

3.) You are using a TV show " Street Tuner Challenge " to derscribe how great the Cobalt was. Well, i watched that show, and the Cobalt was a fully built race car. And the fact that you even mention the Jetta on Nirtus made me laugh.

4.) You want to know why people dont buy Chevys? Its because of quality. I dont know about your standards, but mine are pritty high. If i want to buy a car, it better be worth it. Chevy is so simple and plain. It lacks that complexity. People dont only buy a car based on its performance.. they look at the smaller things that matter. Like sitting position, and where the shifter is located, or how the car feels when your driving it. Or even where the head unit is pointing. These are just a few examples. Anyways, my friend has a Cobalt SS, the supercharged one. The thing hauls, and the whine of the SC is incredable. But when i drive it, it feels cheap. I go up road-ways and the car making creeking noises. the whole car is made of plastic. Thats why European cars are great, they have the smaller things that count. But if you dont mind those things, then go buy one.

the civic is an awesome car; however, to get the civic to handle as good as the cobalt, the ride would be really harsh, not saying the cobalt is butter; and it has a balanced set up of suspension geometry; ( a couple yrs back the track prepped cobalt beat a bunch of track prepped R34s , Gen 3 RX7s, E46 M3’s, EVOs & STIs on the time attack in button willow) and as for the G37 ;that is a badass car; Nissan built that car for all around “sporty” driving; comfort and luxury, (not HARD CORE track days) which GM build the cobalt to kick a$$ on the track;  the  cobalt and civic will never have the ride and luxury of the G37; its comparing apples to oranges.

    Old cobalt --

That car was a car that was funded by GM corporate and had a lot of $$$$ goodies as well as a factory race driver behind the wheel....whereas the cars it was competing against were driven by their owners who bought/built/drove them at the track....weekend warriors with day jobs against a factory backed race car ...lol

The new cobalt is obviously pretty good (especially compared to the crapaliers of yesteryear) but on a track to test its overall abilities (Laguna) I am guessing we might see some better idea about the overall car itself...

The new EVO is slower than the old EVO but its got a better ride and even easier to drive than the old EVO so its a corner carver with massive grip...the added weight is a double  edged sword for sure

The Mugen Civic is a body kit, some slightly stiffer springs/shocks and $$$ forged Mugen wheels...not exactly a "track" machine by any means....a run of the mill Civic Si would have been fine for the comparo...at 22K or so it would make ALOT more sense as well...If that car was a Civic Type R for 30K it would have made more sense....or the Civic Dominator with 300hp and a supercharged K20 from Mugen...the stateside "Mugen" package is not even close lol

Driver John Heinricy piloted a race-prepared Cobalt SS Supercharged --- he happens to be an SCCA champ and works for GM...the fact its a purpose built race car seemed to fly right over your head as well lol

As I said before.....when GM dumps a couple hundred grand into an 04 Cobalt and turns it into a race car up against guys who tinker with their cars its a little silly....seriously ...a race prepped JGTC Skyline would mop the floor with that Cobalt....we are talking about street cars and you link us GM propaganda about a one off race car racing street cars driven by normal guys....

The story and $$$ was dumped to give guys like you hope with a 2000 Sunfire....look if you dump 200K into your Cobalt and have a race car driver behind the wheel you can beat street cars! Wow! lol ....from what I heard that thing had an Xtrac sequential tranny....12K just for the tranny...Im sure when you build your Sunfire youll equip it with an Xtrac tranny too right? lol seriouly

What am I saying...you said your 150whp Sunfire runs 12.2's@105 at stock weight with you behind the wheel...you already smoke stock Skylines with that mega intake mod you have lol

LOL...  I know. The M5 set the standard for all Touring Sedans. It is an iconic car and should made to reflect this. The M5 is the epitome of style and still held in high regards my many enthusiasts. Myself included. The M5 will never die and will never fade away.

What am I saying...you said your 150whp Sunfire runs 12.2's@105 at stock weight with you behind the wheel...you already smoke stock Skylines with that mega intake mod you have lol

    umm......wow!!!!!

If you honeslty believe a Cobalt can beat a Skyline....

Cobalt SS at 265bHP: Buttonwillow Springs #13: Skyline 600 hp at 2:05, Volkswagon Jetta on Nitrous at 2:07 and Chevy Cobalt SS Stage 2 Supercharger at 1:58.

Well that was confusing... Did that make sense to anyone else?

Also, regarding point 4, what do you drive in reality that has raised your standards so high?

Dont worry bud, you dont need to understand it. And i drive a bmw e30(my project car). My standards arent that high, but i can tell the deffrence between a cheap car and a good car. Dont get me wrong, am not saying the Cobalt is cheap. Its just not as well made.

I have no idea why the lettering is all screwy.....

I guess the fact that they were all race prepped doesn't matter, huh? The Skyline was actualy down to 600HP because of mechanical and EMS issues. It was origanly rated at 980HP. Rather than conceding to the fact that a GM vehical has out-performed a Tuner God machine you will try to use the fact that a Proffessional driver was used.

    SergEK9:
...a race prepped JGTC Skyline would mop the floor with that Cobalt....we are talking about street cars and you link us GM propaganda about a one off race car racing street cars driven by normal guys....

The Skyline and Jetta are street cars and no, they too were driven by proffessional drivers. They were also tuned by experienced Race-Teams. This by far not GM proppaganda. It was an Official event held by perhaps the only objective source. The Cobalt was also driven back to the "Shop" because it was Street-Legal.

And a JGTC Skyline would get "mopped" by a SPEED GT Cadillac.

    SergEK9:
....from what I heard that thing had an Xtrac sequential tranny

Exactly. You never bother to read or research. But I will tell you: F35 5spd.mt with 4.45 FD. Have to admit I didn't have to research far....  just scolled to the bottom of the page.

If you are unfamiliar with BMW's "G-Power" Option the I suggest you refrain from further Posts on BMWs. I never said the Nur. Time was posted by a G-Powered M5. I commented on the Cadillac being of a lower HP compared to a G-Powered M5.

    BMWpower:
Your Dailmer comment has nothing to do with Benz. Am telling you Benz has a good F1 car, and you are telling me Dailmer used Benz performance parts...

Confused the bejeezes out of me too. I think he believes Mercedes and Benz are companies. Well sir, Dailmer is the company, Mercedes is the make and Benz is the model.

Dailmer partners with McLearen and AMG to outsource performance.

The fact that you watched the show and made this comment made me laugh too.

As for your 4th comment it seems to be your opinion rather than a statement or a personal attack so I will leave it be.
