    Re: Online Tournament Overhaul!

I think a time limit would better.  Let say each person gets one 10-20 minute run ever day.  20 minutes is about 10-15 laps and its a long enough time to give the hot lap people the time they need, but short enough to not anger then regular player saying that the hot lap people are getting to much time.

    Re: Online Tournament Overhaul!

Took a quick scan thru the thread and I don't think I saw this point made anywhere, but I'd like to see some changes to the starting grid.  I find the grid always being based on PI (from highest to lowest) kind of frustrating.  I'd like to see the starting grid either randomized, or based on tournament qualifying order.

Now I don't always take the best PI option out to the track for a tourney race, and its definitely not written in stone that the best PI cars will win.  I enjoy the challenge of trying to pick my way thru the field after starting from the back, but when yer running an R4 or R2 tourney, some of the inferior PIs have a hard time when you have a wall of C6's/Saleens(R2) or Vipers/S4's(R4) in front of you of that make you alter your line/speed through corners severly hampering your chances of setting up opportunities to make passes because the car in front can recover from poor lines better than your car.  I know this is always a part of racing, like I said I enjoy the challenge, but I'd also like to have a chance at the opportunity to start out front in a lower PI car and play the fox.  It can be frustrating to be the fox when there are a bunch of Clydesdales in front of all the time.

Randomizing the grid might also promote people trying out different options of cars in a tourney race as well.  In the R series its pretty evident what cars are typically the best options to win (those noted above) but if you didn't have to always start behind those cars which are generally the best in class, then maybe you wouldn't have a race where 6 racers are driving S4's or C6's.

    Just a thought...

Maybe having Tourney's where manufacturers or car models are restricted could be an option too...  like a 'Nissan vs Porsche' R4 tourney or something

    Re: Online Tournament Overhaul!

There are some great ideas in here so far, however you have to remember that we are limited by what we can and cannot change.  The best thing to do when thinking of ideas is to utilize what is currently available in the tournaments system.

Once again keep the ideas coming.  It will be a little while before I start rolling these out, but it is something I really want to take care of to make sure there are some fun tournaments for everyone.

    Re: Online Tournament Overhaul!

Most of the tournaments I've been involved with has a qualifying aspect added to it.  We either then set the grid by running a single slow lap based on the qualifying, or using a first pace lap to sort out the grid and then using a running start.  Adding qualifying to the tournaments and setting the grid from the fastest lap during qualifying would be a great improvement.  Sometimes a good qualifying position makes all the difference.  Random is great for online racing, but in a tournament I would prefer an official qualifying session with the grid set by qualifying position.

    Re: Online Tournament Overhaul!

I really hope that randomizzing tracks or a rotational track schedule would TOP my list for keeping things fresh.

Second would be daily tournies.  I am online at roandom times, so don't consider myself a tournament guy too much, but I HAVE turned away from the tournament qualifiying because its just the same track(s) repeated.  I am sure I'm not the only one.

    Just my 2 cents

    Project BlackJack-SideFX:
Thanks for all the feedback everyone.  Like I said this is a work in progress, but once I get a few other priorities sorted out this will be on the top of the list.  It has gone on too long with these repeated settings.

So I am not sure if we can randomize the settings each week, but this is something I will look into.  As has already been mentioned before the goal of re-organizing the tournaments is to provide some variety for players that want a specific style of tournament.

A tournament that is completed in one day sounds like a good idea, as well as tournaments that start at prime time for our European Players.  Also endurance tournaments and no assist tournaments are all ideas that we can implement.  So keep the ideas flowing and I will make sure to carefully read this thread when the time comes to start work on the new settings!

    Thanks!

Agree with this, but I'm from Australia, so some 1 day tournaments for the east asian time zone would be good, both Europe and US times are only good if I want to be up at 2am to 6am. Shift work is such a pain and I need to sleeeeeeep zzzzzzzzz......Sleep [|-)]

    Re: Online Tournament Overhaul!

The races are just spread over far to many days. Most people aren't going to plan their week for these silly tourneys. That's why it dies out and hardly anyone shows up for all the races.

I think a good idea would be to have all the races in the tournament, except the final in one day. Then have the final race the very next day at the same time to build up the drama. Smile [:)] But no problem with having them all in the same day either.

    Re: Online Tournament Overhaul!

More tournys that have start times for the rounds that start at sensible times for racers in the UK instead of the rounds starting at 3 or 4 in the morning. Times like 10pm would be great.

    Re: Online Tournament Overhaul!

Maybe some combination restriction tournaments. For example B class with >3000lbs and <500hp. This would get rid of the ever boring integras and chargers and really spice things up. Changing the values twice a month or so would keep things exciting from a tunning perspective as all of sudden the B class that worked the last two tourneys would not be ideal anymore. We would get to see a lot more variety in the types of cars that people bring, making far more interesting races of cars of different strengths and weaknesses.

    Re: Online Tournament Overhaul!

My biggest problem with the tournaments has been lobby issues, a few weeks ago, I ran a finals with one other person, however another race was run and the winner of that race was the overall winner.  Today in the bronze, class b tournament, there were five of us in the lobby and the race never started, so none of us even got the chance to move on.  Those are problems that should be cleared up, IMO

I would like to see NO Assist Tourney and mix up the tracks more and more laps per round at least one pitstop and loads more things you cant do!

    Re: Online Tournament Overhaul!

All of these ideas are excellent. Same day tourneys, random track, variety in cars, restrictions. these are FORMAT changes and are needed to keep the freshness in our hobby and interest peeked for those who have raced these many times. But in my humble opinion, it is the infrastructure of the tournament network that needs some tweaking and TLC. No more out of whack glitch cars in qual. no more 3 players in one lobby, two others in another lobby , though it's the same race and no race comes up. No more top 4 deosn't advance but two that didnt show up advanced. Slow load times to the tune of 6-8 minutes or more. I am not complaining--far from it, I love this game, easily the best console sim available. But i do see room for some online tourney NETWORK improvments-after all it's at the heart of what we all like to do--RACE.

    Re: Online Tournament Overhaul!

Firstly we have to look at the problems from the seasons that have gone on. The tyre glitch is the major problem at the moment i see and not enough clubs are getting a say in matters. I think there needs to be more and more emphasis on the clubs like SQR, TRC, IPR,VVV and R2P and other car clubs that put major efforts into this. When i mentioned clubs i mean the old system was great in Forza one. Top 5 guys from any club, only their times count for the clubs average. Can this not be introduced here, create a club template much like Forza one.

This can be seen as me wanting more off the club feature and i cant deny this but its desperately needed as the scoreboards are just not competitive anymore and the hotlap challenges are really just a poor substitute. That being said im gvad that a step was taking to do this. My idea would be to avoid the tyre glitch at all costs. If a tyre glitch car pops up some week just make sure its run stock. This means we can use every car except tyre glitch cars are run stock, best way out of this i feel.

Im not quite sure what you can do Solo to spice these things up except clubs need to be introduced back into the game to make it more exciting. Forza lost its sugar on top before it was even released because this feature was gone. If Turn10 can roll out these new cars and tracks then why the hell is it so hard to make a club feature even on the website, you guys made a filter that really is useless and alot of people don't see how it benefits the game greatly. Make a club filter, get teams to register on the site. GRID is coming out soon and has a club feature, i fear the worst for Forza to be honest and even my club have started playing COD4 because of the club feature. This is just my 2 cents landin and solo but you know that a club feature would put this game back on the map for clubs and indeed so many people i know that left it because of this exclusion.

On the races that are organised. I never seen the point in them and im not quite sure what you can do with these to be fair. Some great idea's being put down but i think too much effort is being put into the wrong area's in this game.

    Re: Online Tournament Overhaul!

Rotate tracks so it's not always the same ones in the same order all the time.
Rotate the sarting grid order so it's not always the same based on perfornance index (what is that?).
Have some sort of prize in the final race, not just points. Maybe a DLC or MS ponits to get stuff.
Do all U.S. races between 6pm and 1am.

I second that people not even in the race  bet me  in the second round what French fry is that ?
Qualify and then not even get in the lobby ?
All good ideas so far but basic problems should be addressed first I think
It is should be fun for all:, pro & non pro but when things like that happen, you are just being pushed out
