Re: Vintage Trans-Am series (CAM Challenge)

GAWD I could not get in a room tonight, and I was so bummed. I tried SF420, he said go to Gear JammR. I tried Gear JammR he said he wasn't hosting. I reset my XBox several times no joy. I think there were 16 people making two full rooms, and me left out, but I could not tell for sure. I was there at 7PM EST, and I was actually in a room with ChillyRainbow and a couple others, when SF420 got online, but could not find a race to save my life.

I will host Wed night at Road Atlanta as per Drunk Rednecks request above. TEAM DAVExBOB, please let me know if you can host a second room as per last week. We will have the points race around 8PM EST as per the schedule. I plan to open a room about one hour ahead of time for warm-up racing and hopefully we can get rooms sorted out before the points race happens. Last week we left a guy out, and now I know what that feels like. I want to try to avoid it. If you can't get in a room send me a message so I can at least worry about it. One hour before the points race should be enough time to get everything sorted out.

SF420, I think someone mentioned awhile back, can we get a status update on the future of the Dodge Charger Daytona? Your ruling was very clear on the Corvette, and it cleared up a lot of other confusion as well - thank you for that. But no word on the Daytona. Thanks in advance

Re: Vintage Trans-Am series (CAM Challenge)

First off, let me say it was EXCELLENT, CLEAN racing last night. We did have 2 full rooms going, and that is awesome.

Secondly, I second the motion that the paint on the #74 Esso Charger was pretty sweet.

For the Daytona- I raced against a Daytona last night way later after the points race. This is actually the first Daytona I've seen used, and the guy was pretty damn good with it. The Daytona ruling is going to be the same as the Corvette ruling, as of today. If you are new as of 02/09/2010 you may not build and use a Daytona Charger, however current users are grandfathered in. I'll update the first post.

We're going to have to figure out some sort of fair way to do "teams" for future seasons- now that the 'Vette is going out, we're being flooded with Chargers, I'd like to see a good balance of all makes.

I'll get on those replays and figuring up points here in a few minutes.

Re: Vintage Trans-Am series (CAM Challenge)

Just get back to us when you can, DR. We appreciate having you around, and you're still one of the founding people who helped get this series to where it's at.

With that, kachow94, can I count on you to host Wednesdays? I would also like to find a permenant 2nd-room host.

The wheel list is posted. I did leave off a few "classic" wheels, like the Halibrands and Cragar Smoothie and Cragar SS- and the reason being is that they are more "show" wheels than they are racing wheels. Yes, they are classic style, but they are not really "racing" wheels.

The halibrand is a racing wheel for sure dude. Knock offs have been on racecars forever. It sucks that the game ones are just chrome so no biggy but the smoothie is the closest to a straight up steel wheel you can get. they just shouldnt be chrome at least they arent BBS rims or Dubs. The cragar S/S has been on drag cars for a long time also

    Examples

    halibrand

    Cragar S/S

I didnt find any Smoothie wheel racecar pics but that is the closest thing to a steel wheel you can get

i agree. its bs that they are chrome in the game and you cant paint them or give them a natural finish. i smell a need for another fm3 update!!!!

Re: Vintage Trans-Am series (CAM Challenge)

I will be the regular host on Wed nights for the rest of the month of Feb. SF420, thank you for the points update, clearing up the Daytona issue, the wheel list, and the cool pix. You are doing a great job as administrator for this series. The race last night sounds typical of the quality I have found in this series. Two full rooms is awesome, unless you are the 17th driver. If you cannot get in a room tomorrow night shoot me a message ASAP so we can try to do something about it. I look forward to meeting you all online around 7PM EST Wed night.

Re: Vintage Trans-Am series (CAM Challenge)

We really do need some designated race night hosts- at least 2 per night.

It's a shame we can't get a hopper set up for this, or set up a private race, and when it gets full, leave and set up another private race.

My recommendation, however, is to add as many people off the race lists to your friends list as possible. That way, if you set up a secondary (or, thirdendary) room, people can join it.

Re: Vintage Trans-Am series (CAM Challenge)

Had a great time last night! First night I ran with you guys and it was a blast and everyone is real good out on the track (except maybe me but I'm working on it..lol).  I may be able to help out in the future with hosting if someone can't. I don't have a life (married).  But I will be out this next week for a funeral.

I like the 'flavor' of the series and will try and help out with sticking with my Chevelle (if I can get the stupid thing to stick coming out of a corner...any suggestions?)  It would suck if this T/A series turns into a 'Charger' or 'Mustang' series but how can you argue with what's winning and easiest to drive?  The infamous Catch 22.  Then it comes down to more specific restrictions for each car or do's and don'ts and pretty soon, anyone new or checking out the series to potentially join will be so confused by all the pre-race jargon, they'll just move on to a simplier series.  Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

P.S. Sorry for whoever I spun last night in the points race, I thought I had the inside line on that corner and they saw me, but it didn't turn out that way for whatever reason. I'm usually not "one of those guys".  Won't happen again, my apologize.

Re: Vintage Trans-Am series (CAM Challenge)

Thanks Demi - I am almost over missing the race last night. Can you host a second room tomorrow night? I just gotta say something about the wheel list. NOT our wheel list - I mean the choice of wheels in the game in general. This is just my opinion, but how is it that we have dozens and dozens of choices, and all of them suck? No mini-lites, no western deep dish, and as noted, you can't paint your Halibrands, And also when you paint your wheel you MUST paint the WHOLE wheel, not just the center or the spokes. All of my cars have like one of three wheels in the game. Oh well, just had to vent to people who I think will side with me, sorry.

Yeah, I will host the second room tomorrow.

I've got most of you on my friends list but if we haven’t raced together before send me a FR and I'll try to make sure you get into one of the rooms.

if I can get the stupid thing to stick coming out of a corner...any suggestions?

Remove power and add grip (tire compound/width, weight reduction), then develop a consistency in your line (therefor) laps.  If your there, take a look at your suspension:

    • Try adjusting both Rear sway and rear spring (lower) - we're wanting weight to transfer to the rear.  My rear spring set about half of feurerdog's calc suggestion.  I find adjusting the rear ARB higher allows for better rotation of the car but too much causes big loss of R traction on accl through exit.  Really difficult for the sweepers into long straights.  Likewise, a high rear spring rate would not allow the rear to 'sit' instead transfering weight to the front, losing traction out back.
    •  Play with the Damper settings - probably the toughest as you need to be consistent with your line to 'feel' what the car is doing.  As far as I can tell, raising the rear (R)ebound setting and dropping the rear (B)ound setting 'hooks' the rear up more if used in combination with a lower (than rear) front R set and higher (than rear) B set.  I find raising the rear B setting also aids in car rotation similar to rear sway in corners however it improves straightline bite (like on the start).  What ever you set the rebound to initially, set the bound about 50% to 75% less, then work from there.

Something I do for initial setups is set both F/R rebound to 10, and both F/R bound to 4.   I then drive the hell out of it until I see how the car is handling.  I like using hotlaps for the ghost to note consistency - only when I feel I cannot improve, I go back to the tune screen.  Then refine rebound to say 8/10 and bound to 4/2 and repeat car beatdown.  If I don't like it, I go the other way - rebound 10/8, bound same (4/2).  If I feel the car needs rotation I adjust the rear sway.  If I don't like what that did I return the sway to its position then adjust the rear bound.  If it feels bouncy I adjust both F/R bound lower and look at my spring rates.  Keep in mind a spring is made to oscillate and without dampers, would continue to do so (look at your telemetry).  Set the dampers to control the springs.

(Note: my driving style and definitions of adjustments may be completely different than yours.)
