Forza 2 vs Forza 3 (tracks)

    Suzuka:

It was hard to get the pics right, becouse you have really limited camera movement in forza 2. So, is anyone like me, and already complained about the bad texture in forza 3, not realizing the same one was in two?

Anyways, overall, looks like they imported the tracks. Ehh, The difference seems to be more in the quality of the uploads.

I just realized I forgot to re-host the forza 2 pics, but they look like they are shwoing up, so I'll leave them for now.

Re: Forza 2 vs Forza 3 (tracks)

On Tsukuba, I can't really see much difference, as it's basically just Tsukuba.

With Suzuka, however, it's much better, as you can see the Ferris wheel and everything in much higher detail, even when very far away, the little lake thing is probably better, even though you can't see it in Forza 2, and the track looks nicer overall.

Re: Forza 2 vs Forza 3 (tracks)

You can clearly tell that the tracks have been more than "imported".

As noted Suzuka is plainly obvious.  Tsukuba is a bit more difficult to tell, but upon close inspection you can see that every object has been retextured to a much higher resolution.  The buildings around Tsukuba have minor differences, implying they were completely redone from scratch.  Both tracks have significantly higher texture resolution on the tracks themselves and slightly better resolution in the surrounding terrain.

Clearly tracks aren't something you're going to instantly notice immense differences.  It's not like cars where 4x the polys is instantly noticeable, tracks are largely just textures.  It's not like they're going to go and put a new turn in or a new building that wasn't there or something.  About all that can be done is simply higher texture resolution and better LOD models, which are both clearly improved in Forza 3 in these shots.

Re: Forza 2 vs Forza 3 (tracks)

    Good work!

The overall FM3 lighting seems much "fresher" than the FM2 shots. There are a few differences at Tsukuba in terms of the building layouts (see left hand of pics), possibly real-world changes in portable buildings / ad hoardings.

Like you said, OP, the texture-repeat DOES feature in the FM2 gravel traps, but despite the 18,342,532* screenshots I've looked at in the last couple of years I've never noticed it before.... which leads me to believe that it WON'T cause a problem with the experience of FM3 Big Smile

As said the maps are probably been imported, then retuxtured too look better... If they did like the Le Mans track (La Sarthe), using 60gb of info and pictures:

    100tracks * 60Gb = 3 years delay of the game

I think the FM3 shots look better as well.

However, I'm not so sure that the amount of objects seen are because of the increased draw distance of the new graphics engine or because they are at slightly different camera angles.

Either way, it looks like they imported the tracks for FM2 and reworked them. This is obviously a reasonable thing to do since it saves a ton of work.

BTW, the cars are 10 times the polygons in FM3 over FM2 and 4x the texture resolution

Re: Forza 2 vs Forza 3 (tracks)

I'll give them the credit of everything being of a higher resolution and quality but to be honest it is a tad underwhelming. The new tracks look fantastic and they are far more visually impressive than what we've seen from FM2, but unfortunately these old tracks look nigh on identical to their predecessors.

I'm not going to complain as they've done a great job with everything else and if this is the style they want then it just comes down to a personal aesthetic, but I was expecting something a little more eye catching. I just worry that when it comes to the tracks they may have gotten so obsessed with precision and realism that they may have lost a little bit of their creativity. It is a sim however and if recreating the track down to the pebble is they're aim, then I'm not one to judge that.

Anyway, that's just my opinion and I'm sure whatever they do it'll turn out great in the final game.

Well not a big diffrence ,  in Tsukuba even clouds still are the same  , i belive they imported not only the tracks , but cars also , for exaple Calsonic Nissan R390 looks like in FM2 with home made paint job...

Well they should look identical, since they are still the same tracks....Tongue Tied

I think the increase in graphic quality is IMMENSE.  Seriously, its probably the largest jump in graphics from one game to its sequel(on the same console) I've ever seen.

Its quite something to be disappointed with how good they look, if you ask me.  I dont think anybody could have known that Forza 3 was going to look THAT much better than Forza 2.  I didn't expect it.  Especially not with all those rumors we were hearing about 100+ tracks, more cars, multiple new modes and whatnot.

Clouds look a lot better in FM3.  How can you not see that?

I'd have to see a side-by-side for the R390, so I wont comment on that.

Re: Forza 2 vs Forza 3 (tracks)

Take a word from someone who has already played the game. You will not be disappointed. I played the Beta version in New York, and the graphics along with gameplay are much better. We didnt play the final version of the game, but I will tell you that it is much better in every single way that I was able to see.
