I don't really know anything about tuning but I think I have filled in all the values correctly but I am getting 0.0 for lb/in on both spring rates, am I missing something?

    you probably are.

do me a favor and goto tools>add-ins> enable analysis toolpak

if that doesn't work, i might need a screenshot.

I've encountered a similar problem. I'm using office 2003, and if i just open your sheet i could see the example input/tune setup values. But when i change...lets say Curb Weight, the values for:

tire pressure / springs / anti-roll bars change into ###### and if i move with my pointer on it, it says: #NAME?

Maybe an unknown expression ?!  With google docs it works !

Re: New Tuning Calc (need testers)

    Good god!

If this works as well as it looks, I'll be most pleased. The wheel specs were a nice touch, but the car list was an unexpected treat.  Thank you.

I'll give this a go when I get home, both as a comparison to the cars I've tuned, and a test baseline to kickstart my improvements.  I'll let you know how I get on.

Re: New Tuning Calc (need testers)

Is this calculator based on Feuerdog's latest?

If so then I'm getting quite different results from both.

    Inputted the following data:-

    FA

    2925 lbs

    50% weight distrib

100 lb front aero, 200 lb rear aero

    255/25/R20 front and back

As I said, your calc gives very different results to Feuerdogs with this data

Re: New Tuning Calc (need testers)

Nice work Yes Looks like this has a lot of potential!

Some point you may want to consider:

    1. Your suspensions calcs don't match up with the ones from FEUERDOG's spreadsheet. Is this intentional or just a mistake in the spreadsheet somewhere?
    2. Any chance of a guide on how to use the transmission page (which looks awesome btw)? Can I use it to tune 7-gear boxes?
    Thanks Big Smile

Re: New Tuning Calc (need testers)

Just had a play with the transmission tuner and come across this:

Is this telling me that I am making 601hp at 8250rpm? I'm confused by this as 8250 is the redline. 7700 is the rpm where I make top power (601hp) according to the car's info.

Hope you don't think I'm being overly critical! I love the spreadsheet and am very grateful for the work you have put into it - I just want to understand what's going on Smile

Re: New Tuning Calc (need testers)

1 question. What is the TIRE ASPECT RATIO? it is set 35%, what does that mean?

Re: New Tuning Calc (need testers)

Thnx for the hard work !

Will come in very useful - even though much of it is far too complex for me - having the cars sortable is extremely handy for starters.

    Cheers.

    1. what are you talking about? they work fine for me and i've tested them out. this calc displays what you should input into the game. spring values are in .5 increments and so is tire pressure.

    2. 7 speeds? no. it was made for 6 speed gear boxes. a guide? i'm not even sure how to tune individual gears for all cars but i built it for those who know what the hell they are doing and see the progress they are going through.

the transmission sheet calculates your optimal shift times even if you change the gear ratios. that's the beauty of it.

optimal clutch dump i'm still researching on.

yea that is what i said.

    again you go to:

    tools>add-ins>analysis toolpak

enable it and it should work.

no 8250 is your redline rpm in gear which is then used to outline the graph right underneath it.

you have scrolled to the right just a bit.

cell A28 is your power rpm cell B28 is the torque at max power. it is several different charts compiled into one.

    frankysk:
1 question. What is the TIRE ASPECT RATIO? it is set 35%, what does that mean?

for example: 255/35R19 the number in bold is your aspect ratio

    255 is your tire width
    19 is your rim size.

oh and if you want it to look like feuedog's you might want to set the strength modifiers under the advanced tab at 100% and leave the front bias blank.

Nice work Slave Munky, but you see now why I like to keep the calcs as simple as possible at first.
It's almost a full time job troubleshooting some of the possible issues that come up and it can be difficult to look at something you know so well from the perspective of a new user.

You need to be a little less defensive mate. They were only friendly questions Tongue Tied

"What I'm talking about" is that if I put the same inputs into your sheet as into Feuerdog's I get different results. I was enquiring whether this was by mistake or by design, seeing as you said the suspension calculators were based on Feuerdog's. If you need that made clearer, just ask.

didn't mean to be defensive sorry.

but i still don't understand what you mean by "different results"?

if you mean you see 595.5 under springs while feuerdog's displays 594.653258741 then by all means it is by design.

the game lets you tune setting by .5 increments. so i made the effort on rounding the number so you know what exactly to put in. the suspension dynamic calculation are from feuerdogs no doubt. what is displayed is what you eventually see on your tuning screen in the game.

again forgive me for the hostility, i was trying to answer as many questions as fast as possible. some questions get me confused and i don't seem as nice when i'm confused.

as for the guide for the transmission calc, i designed it to be purely automatic. it automatically shows you a simplified dyno graph, shows you the torque applied to the wheels at each gear, and the speed as well as the shift into points in each gear.

you can by all means play with the gear ratios and see what you come up with but do so at your own risk.

    true that.

my goal was so make it as simple as possible and organized yet very informative.

if i can't accomplish that then i'll just have to make it better and better.

    No problem mate Smile

I should have been clearer by what I mean by different results - hopefully this will explain it better:

Take my example car, an upgraded M5 E60. I put all of the weight distribution/tyre width and other information into your spreadsheet, and the same information into the sheet Feuerdog has released recently.

Your spreadsheet says my ARB settings (for example) should be 20.40/16.60 F/R, whereas Feuerdog's says 19.70/17.30 F/R. I was just wondering if they were supposed to be different. I think this is what Johnny was referring to as well.

Thanks again for the spreadsheet and if I can be any help let me know Yes (although my tuning skills leave a lot to be desired!)

    i'll look into it.

update: fixed bug when calculating springs where the tire compensation values were calculated as a positive integer.

update: fixed front bias modifiers for ARB bump and rebound. thanks guys for making me see this. calculation should be the same as feuerdogs. i'll update the links when i can.

update: links are updated from the first post. re-download it and let me know what you think.
