Re: Here Is How To Fix Your Off-Centered Wheel

replacing the force feedback motor will not increase the strength. The motot that is in the controller is capable of providing alot of feedback. The force is determined by what the game tells the controller. Theres alot of people saying there ffb is fine, and other saying that theres is very weak, i honestly believe this is true, and its something to do with the wheel, not necessarily the motor. Because of this i really think turn 10 should include ffb as an adjustment in the game, because if its not adjustable many are going to be turned away from the steering wheel.

ok im about to try and fix mine but I have a couple of Q 1. Im not really going to mess around with the sensor gear but with the main gear right? because is that the case then you need to correct the next because is somewhat confuising if not can you explain better the next quote? "You need to reposition the sensor gear. Keep in mind when doing this your keeping the sensor gear in the same position but moving the bigger gear(the wheel)" 2. do you need any special tools other than a screw driver ? 3. have you done this kind of projects before? 4. from 1-10 how hard did you find this project ? because the best thing I have done right is changing a broken screen on a Ipod lol

    1) you are moving the sensor gear, maybe somebody can explain it better than i can. The sensor needs to remain in the same position but you cant move the big gear, so your pulling the sensor gear away from the big gear. You then turn the steering wheel which is connected to the big gear to center, then sliding the sensor gear back into place. so
    1. pull sensor gear away from big gear
    2. rotate big gear to center the steering wheel
    3. slide the sensor gear back into place.
this sounds very simple but its quite tricky to get the sensor gear in the right spot, pay close attention to where the flat side of the sensor gear needs to be. When you take the cover off, position the wheel to what is centered when in the game, so if it is pointing left, point it to the left the same amount and look at there the flat side of the gear is pointing, when all is said and done the sensor gear should have the flat part in the same position and the wheel should be straight. hope this helps.

i have alot of mechanical experience but i think if you can replace the screen in an ipod you should be able to do this

Re: Here Is How To Fix Your Off-Centered Wheel

"As I understand it the force feedback is not adjustable in this game, maybe we need to see if turn 10 can put a patch up so this is adjustable, but we will leave that to another thread."

The force feedback is not adjustable in the demo, but *is* adjustable in the full version.

You can tune sensitivity and deadzone for steering, throttle and brake.

You can also tune amount of FFB force (0-100%) and the amount of Rumble (0-100%).

    Amazing electronics smracer!

    See you on the track

i have heard a couple people say the ffb was NOT adjustable in the full game, can you verify that it is?
    thanks

Re: Here Is How To Fix Your Off-Centered Wheel

Yes, I worked on the game and promise you'll be able to adjust FFB force from 0-100% as well as Rumble 0-100%.

It's under Options\Wheel Settings\Advanced one you get your hand on the game.

Since you won't believe that I worked on the game, you'll just have to wait to see if you can believe me.

Alittle off topic but still about the problems the wheel has, has anybody had the horrible hissing interferance noise in the headset when plugged into the wheel, and if so is there any solution?
Feels good goin fast don't it, by the way don't try and snort these lucky charms.

Heres a question do you know what setting the demo is set at as far as 0-100% ratio goes on those two settings?

I have what sounds like static hiss, when using the Wheel with FM1 on the 360, it was very hard to hear people, havent had a problem voice chatting and such on the 360 though, just turn it down a tad and the hiss is gone

Yea I tried playing PGR3 a couple nights ago with some buddies and they're freaking loud asses in the first place so it was half decent when I turned the volume down a bit till the hiss was reduced and I could still make out most of the talking, But I dont think it would work with the quite talkers out there on the other end for me.

Not positive, but I believe 100% and 100% which are the defaults for the full game.

Re: Here Is How To Fix Your Off-Centered Wheel

    From seeing that picture...

$150 for a plastic shell with very few electrionics and a crappy generic mabuchi motor powering it... damn. It must cost MS a whole $20 to produce each wheel...

Re: Here Is How To Fix Your Off-Centered Wheel

I am thinking of fixing the off center issue but i am a  little bit clumsy

what problems or damage can i cause if i do something wrong?

i mean can i blow the job so that the wheel will not work any more, cause some shortcut

or something? i guess I am able not to cut off the wires and i should be able to find all the screws that i will unscrew but otherwise i don't know if i should start fixing it

i am afraid of doing something stupid

Re: Here Is How To Fix Your Off-Centered Wheel

I would also like more information on this but i wanna know just a little more details.

firstly, what causes an off-centered wheel, obviously i don't have a wheel yet but im thinking about getting the MS wheel. Are all wheels plauged by this problem or is it wheels that have had rigourus use?

Im pretty used to picture walkthrough's. (i took apart my NES to replace the pin connector). but its still feels that im not completly comfortable with this walkthrough. not saying you did a bad job but maybe a video or more steps just to make sure us newbs know what to do each step?

lastly, how can you get the measurement to know how much to turn the gear to make it correct? what if i overcorrect it? do you just hold the wheel strait when you have it apart, remember where the gear was when you had it strait and then let the steering wheel go, and then turn the gear to the strait position?

Re: Here Is How To Fix Your Off-Centered Wheel

Hopefully not, as all complaints are that the FFB isnt strong enough. That would really suck if our only adjustment is to make it weaker than the demo.

Re: Here Is How To Fix Your Off-Centered Wheel

I found a better way to fix it.  I returned it over and over until I got a good one.  I'm not paying $150 to have to open up the wheel and fix it myself.  Eff that.

Re: Here Is How To Fix Your Off-Centered Wheel

This seems like a very widespread problem.  I have already taken 2 wheels back because they were off center, now I finally got a wheel thats straight...for now.  I can't believe they haven't recalled the wheel or extended its warranty.  Oh, thanks for the informative walkthrough, I'm sure alot of people need it heh.

Re: Here Is How To Fix Your Off-Centered Wheel

Great walkthru! Hopefully I won't have to resort to opening mine and fixing it, but at least I have a detailed walkthru to follow.

I have a couple of questions:

Is this fix for people who have wheels that are perpetually off-center, or just occasionally off-center? My wheel usually turns slightly to the right when a race is about to start, putting it just off-center. Sometimes I'll switch cars and jump into a new race and it'll turn back to the left, centering itself properly. It's not off enough that it bugs me too much, plus it resets itself occasionally. Should I bother with this fix or would it still alternate between the two positions each time? Thanks to anyone who can answer.
