    JDM is the new ricer??

jez i swear i dont know nothing about jap cars. (lol). but at least i dont try to.

anyway so lately ive been noticing cars that have a decals that say JDM is the new ricer? as far as i know JDM is supposably considered cool for some reason. like getting an Si civic and giving it the type r look. im not sure about the engine/suspension etc..

ive talk to several other people and the all get pretty uptight about calling their JDM conversions ricer...

were do you guys stand in on this?

for me i agree with those decals. and no it was not on a american car i saw it on a mazda rx8, eclipse gts, and on a mazdaspeed 3. agree because i just dont see the difference is like getting a mustang v6 and trying to make it look like the GT.

ha JDM is not the new thing drifting is and we are talking about in real life of course

example the 240sx is the new civic. but then again there are still a lot of ricers out there with their crusty cars.

anyways JDM could be clean or dirty becuase in japan in different cities they have different styles and choices of Cars. like i think Osaka is Big on the Heavy cars like Soarers etc. Tokyo might like the small lightwieght cars like silvias, trueno, you know the usual.

240s have been popular for the longest time...they must of rose in popularity lately....idkn as far as civics i think they are more towards roadracing. it be nice if us had type r versions dont see what the big deal is thou.

yep true JDM cars go all the way to match their Japanese cousins and only use Japanese parts. But as a style its totally the other end of the spectrum to rice. And hey if every one starts making cars in the style of your text book JDM car I'd be happy.

but I never quite get why people rebadge their cars since no matter what you do to a US civic Si it will never be a Type R but hey its a free world

the worst is people putting "honda integra".
if you bought an integra anyweres but japan and maybe europe its an acura, but since there are NO acura's in japan it was sold as honda down there. with a better engine and transmission. i belive the japanese got a B18C5 standard to our B18C1. could be wrong though, im new to import performance.

Re: JDM is the new ricer??

we got the DC2 as the Honda Integra Type-R and its odd to start with it was sold identical to the JDM car (as most were imported from japan) then honda switch the front end to look like the USDM model leaving the rest the same

Acura is only for the US region every place else its Honda. But rumour has it they are going to roll it out world wide soon but I'm not sure about that.

but only the US and Japan have gotten the DC5 unless its an import and their are quite a few

really? i allways though that the NSX, integra, and maybe a few others wre sold everywere as acura, except japan because honda didnlt sell acura's in japan.

The JDM style is so far from rice.  There was a real good article about the whole JDM life style, I wish I could find it.  Its not all about just getting the OEM parts but it also extends to getting and wanting the best aftermarket parts out there,  mostly from japan.

Honda are just about to start using the Acura brand in other parts of the world, much like Toyota just recently began using Lexus in Japan and other areas.

so in order for it to be a true jdm u would have to convert it to right hand drive. man that sounds expensive.

    not really

I think a car that looks JDM is something that looked like it hopped straight out of D1gp or the streets of a japanese street race (or drift). Wether it be clean, or insane, or just abstract.

Re: JDM is the new ricer??

JDM is making your car look like either a jdm model car like the evo for instance. It has a different rear bumper and therefore people here in the U.S. swap out their bumpers to make their evo's look jdm. With the STi, people buy the JDM rear spats or the S203/S204 spoiler that the JDM STi/S203/S204(These are all different STi's) has in Japan. Also doing an engine swap from a JDM vehicle like a k20 swap from Japan thats JDM has more power than a k20 here in the U.S. People also buy JDM bodykits that pretty much are just sold in japan. So basically, JDM is putting anything Japanese made on your car I'd say.

the only way to have a true JDM car is just to import a car from japan IMO if you have the US spec dont lie about it since you wont fool any expert

Thats not the point.....no one wants to fool an expert...........They want to have a car that looks better or drives faster.......If JDM wasn't those things no one would be buying jdm products.
