    Ring of Death Club

It seems a lot of people are seeing the dreadful red smile of their 360's, and there were many seperate threads made on the subject. The Ring of Death sucks, and I'm amazed at how many people are getting it! I myself am now twice a member. I thought it would be a good idea to make a central thread for victims of R.O.D.. So, post your horror stories, support your fellow sufferers, and find support and consolance here, guys!

    Re: Ring of Death Club

My first 360 had the bottom right red flashing straight out of the box. The error code stated that there was a hard drive failure which was further reimbursed by the fact that the 360 worked normally without the HDD plugged in. Took it back to Future Shop the next day and they gave me a brand new one. It's been running lots and without any problems for months now.Big Smile [:D]

Congrats Turn 10...you've made my favourite game of all time.

I too have had the red ring of death. But after a while of panicking i noticed my 360 power cable was not plugged in all the way. Problem solved :D

I've gotten it several times after power surges on thunderstorms. Turn it Off, On again and it works every time.

    Re: Ring of Death Club

I've had one dead box. It was a Nov. 2005 build.

It started freezing a lot...then had the ROD once which only lasted a few hours, then again about a month later, when it died completely.

    Re: Ring of Death Club

My first one gave up in the first 3 weeks. The second one crapped out with the disk drive - and I am now on my third one. Waht is good though - is that I got a brand new 360 every few months from Microsoft.

Hmm I got my xbox360 about a year ago but until the Forza 2 demo came out it was played about a total of 10 hours, now its probably had double that in the last week just hope that lack of use hasn't affected it somehow......I have heard that if you stand the console upright it is less likely to overheat though.

I stood my last 2 upright but to no avail...still got the red rings. On my 3rd one now & i've got it lying down this time...no problems so far....(fingers crossed). If this one goes it's getting replaced then sold & i'll be getting a nice black Elite.

    Re: Ring of Death Club

My 360 lived for almost 16 months, so I assumed it was safe.

However, it died last week while I was playing the Forza 2 Demo, and I'm actually waiting for it to be replaced (for free, at least, because it was built in 2005).

    Re: Ring of Death Club

My launch system broke about last Christmas time and they replaced it for free, But both of my nephews bought them at launch and theirs just died recently. Both were told that it would cost 140 dollars to fix and when they asked about free replacement for launch systems they were told that it wasn't offered any more. I'm very disappointed in the systems so far and hope that they fix the problem. If they need to make it bigger to keep it cool, I'm OK with that. I could care less if its as big as an old VCR as long as its stable. If this one breaks and they don't replace it for free, I'm going to try to put one in a PC case and use some kind of gigantic thermaltake fan on the CPU.

    Re: Ring of Death Club

Add me to the list. My first 360 died about 3 days after my initial 90 day warranty. Thank god they extended it to 1 year or i would of been really pissed. Got my refurbed 360. Been about 3 months and its still going, runs hotter then my last one so its only a matter of time. My luck it'll go right when forza 2 comes out.Angry [:@]

Mine is getting replaced for free... maybe they should try again and again until they talk to a CSR who tells them it will be free.

    I'm in.

My launch console died in January, less than two months after the manufacturer warranty expired. Traded it in for a brand new one with a retailer extended warranty, so I'll be able to get an instant replacement if/when it happens again.

    Re: Ring of Death Club

Mine died on Saturday and my butkicker gamer will be arriving tomorrow. It'll be at least two weeks before I can hook the buttkicker up to anything now...not to mention I won't have a console for the Forza 2 launch. At least it was still under warranty.

    Re: Ring of Death Club

I'm yet to have the red ring of death but my 360 has shat itself twice, first time it wouldn't read any discs, had to send it in for a fix, second time it started having strange graphical issues (likely a failing GPU) got it back, worked good for a while, then it started doing it again, not nearly as frequently tho, so i'm just gonna stick with it and then grab an elite once they're released here in Aus.

P.s. my mate and his brother just had to send theirs in also, just a few days apart, flawless relibility the ol 360 Stick out tongue [:P] not one of my mates had not had to send their 360 in to get repaired (i mean people who live in the same town as me, not friends list).

    Re: Ring of Death Club

Add me to the list.  I had never had a problem with my 360, got it one week after launch, then this April it decided it didn't want to work anymore and gave me one red light and an error message.  E 74. I looked up what this meant and it could have been 2 things, a bad av cable or a busted GPU.  I tried different av cables to no avail, and since its a launch 360 i have to pay 140...... i should be shipping it in soon.  Luckily i have borrowed a friends 360 to play Forza 2! :D
